I wrote this while I was working at Goodfield State Bank. I still don't have a daughter but this is a letter to the daughter that I may have.

To my future daughter
I was thinking about you today. I
know it seems weird but one day you might understand that in my mind you are
real and planned you are just not made yet.
I cannot wait to meet you.
I was thinking about all of the good
advice you will not want to hear when you are older. Hopefully you will be able
to read this and know how much I already loved you and still do.
I hope that you have learned that
time is the most precious thing we have. Use it wisely to glorify God and to
build lifelong relationships with your family and a few close friends. If you are anything like me people will flock
to you anyways. They will see your wonderful since of self and how much you
care. It is important to help people but remember you cannot save everyone.
I want you to always remember God
made you. You are the perfect combination of your father and I you were given
the best of both of us and therefor you do not need to worry about what other
people think of you. You are wonderful.
If you have to change who you are to impress or be someone’s friend they are
not worthy of you. Be yourself and people will flock to you.
If you want people to say “I went to
grade school, high school with her.” You have to work for it by being kind and
inclusive and showing the love of Jesus so vividly that it confuses people. It
is not about impressing the girls in high school or having a boyfriend. Boys
are over rated and they smell bad.
My advice to you is always be nice
to people but don’t be a jelly fish pushed around by the currents of high
school girl drama. Do not allow who you are to be determined by anyone who did
not make you and who does not love you unconditionally.
I want you to know that I am strict
because I love you. Rules although you may break them are to protect you.
Physics tells us that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
I will continue to be fair but strict. I
will continue to hold you to a higher standard because that is what you should
do. There is no substitute for hard work. All I expect from you is your best.
You are smart, you are beautiful,
you are important.
